Hey there, I’m Karissa…

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #88714) and professor of counseling and theology in Elk Grove, CA. I have worked toward “helping people become” since 2006 and I have been practicing professionally since 2010. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology and I’m currently pursuing my PhD in the Integration of Theology and Psychology (graduating in 2018). I have been happily married to my husband, Adam King (pictured below) since 2008 and welcomed our daughter into this world in 2017. 🙂

I am passionate about coming alongside young married couples in their journey to healing and wholeness. More about that here: www.dearyoungmarriedcouple.com

As a Christian counselor, I utilize a holistic approach to healing, drawing from my experiences with the Holy Spirit, while implementing tools that are most beneficial to the client.

A variety of approaches have influenced my counseling style and use of tools: Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Solution-focused Therapy. I enjoy working with individuals using a Christian framework, which is how I received much of my training.

I also have experience addressing the following issues: Depression, Bereavement, Anxiety, PTSD, OCD, Mood Disorders (Bi-Polar Disorder, Manic-Depressive Illness), Phobias, Narcissism and Eating disorders/issues, gender identity, and sexual identity.

I have many years of experience working with both small and large groups in churches, school campuses and other venues. I would be honored to join your group in a collective effort to pursue your potential!

My early experiences in the human services field took place at the Enterprise Elementary School District (Redding, CA) where I worked with children with disabilities and behavioral issues. I also worked at CSU, Sacramento where I coached college students as they made academic, career and life decisions for their journeys ahead. I later became employed by Marquis Companies where I worked with older adults (many with dementia and Alzheimer’s) and their family members as they opened a new chapter in the book of life. I have counseling experience in the following settings: outpatient community counseling, university wellness center, church counseling, and private practice. I transitioned my practice to Elk Grove at Creekside Counseling Associates in July, 2014.
