Weight Loss/bariatric surgery

Just as Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) or bariatric surgery has the potential to affect many aspects of a person’s psychosocial functioning, that person’s psychosocial functioning will certainly affect preparation for and adjustment after surgery in several ways. Because of this relationship, a psychosocial evaluation of people who seek WLS is recommended and even required by many bariatric surgeons.

My goal is to not only provide a thorough assessment for you and your surgeon, but to address your thoughts and feelings related to your goals and your vision of yourself after surgery.

During your initial assessment and follow up sessions, we may address one or more of the following areas, depending on your needs and goals:

  • Body Image
  • Lifestyle and Interests
  • Post-Surgery Expectations
  • Physical and Leisure Activity Patterns
  • Psychosocial History and Functioning
  • Self-Awareness and Insight
  • Guilt Associated with Weight
  • Weight and Diet History
  • Binge Eating
  • Night Eating Syndrome (NES)
  • Emotionally Triggered Eating and Grazing
  • Substance Abuse
  • Depression and Anxiety
  • Trauma History
  • Stressors and Coping Skills
  • Support Group
